Some caves are habitats for bats. Bats may occupy the cave seasonally (hibernation or maternity) or remain year round. You may actually see a bat or group of bats, but often evidence of their presence is indicated by guano on the cave floor or on formations, and/or stains on the ceiling. It is highly unusual to find a bat on the cave floor and is usually an indication that something is wrong. Do Not pick up or touch the animal.
